Dental Implants

At Gartside Street Dental Lounge we are aware that a missing tooth can have a huge impact on your confidence and well-being. Dental implants are a modern alternative to dentures.

Dentures, especially on the lower jaw, are prone to slipping and sliding, which can make chewing and speaking difficult and potentially embarrassing. With a dental implant, the implant is placed into the jaw replacing the natural root structure and allowing a crown or denture to be attached to it. Dental implants look and feel like real teeth.

Our highly trained team will do their best to help you regain your self-confidence. We are also here to answer questions you might have about the treatment.

Single Implant

If you are missing a single tooth, one implant and a crown can replace it.

A dental implant provides several advantages over other tooth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like a natural tooth, a dental implant replaces a single tooth without sacrificing the health of neighbouring teeth. Other common treatments for the loss of a single tooth , for example a tooth-supported fixed bridge, requires adjacent teeth to be ground down to support the cemented bridge which can cause the teeth either side to weaken.

As the dental implant replaces your tooth root, your jawbone is also better preserved. Unlike a bridge where some of the bone that previously surrounded the tooth begins to deteriorate, a dental implant integrates with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact.

In the long term, a single implant can be more aesthetic and easier to keep clean than a bridge. Gums can recede around a bridge, leaving a visible defect when the metal base or collar of the bridge becomes exposed. Resorbed bone beneath the bridge can lead to an unattractive smile. And, the cement holding the bridge in place can wash out, allowing bacteria to decay the teeth that anchor the bridge.

The Process

The implant is placed into your jaw and we recommend a period between 3 to 6 months, in which the implant and the bone will bond together and form an anchor for your artificial tooth. During this period, a temporary tooth replacement can be placed over the implant site. Sometimes, your dentist will advise you to come back for a second step, which will involve a procedure to uncover the implant and attach an extension; however, there are some implant treatments which do not require the second step, but you can rest reassured that your dentist will give you the best advice on which system works best for you!

Finally, a replacement tooth called a crown will be created for you by your dentist and attached to the dental implant. After a short time, you will experience restored confidence in your smile and the ability to chew and speak. Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you ever lost a tooth.

Every case is different, and some of these steps can be combined when conditions permit. Your dental professional will work with you to determine the best treatment plan.

Zygomatic Implants

Occasionally, patients are told that they are not suitable for an implant treatment, as ordinary dental implants cannot be used on their own to provide support for implant bridgework. However, at Gartside Street Dental Lounge, we have successfully treated many patients using Zygomatic Implants and our patients always leave with a large, satisfied smile on their face!

Zygomatic implants are longer than ordinary dental implants and are therefore suitable for patients who have used dentures for a long time, leading to the loss of supporting bone which can cause a 'collapse' or loss of facial structure. Zygomatic implants correct this and give a rejuvenating effect to the appearance of the face. Depending on the bone availability, your dentist might only need to use one or two Zygomatic implants, along with 2-4 ordinary dental implants in order to support the restoration. This sort of treatment usually takes place under intravenous sedation.

After the placement of the Zygomatic Implants, your dentist will fit a fixed resin bridge on the same day.

All-on-4 Teeth in a Day

Dental implants are an extremely effective long-term solution for missing teeth and a modern alternative to dentures, without the commonly experienced denture problems.

All-on-4 Dental Implants is a revolutionary treatment available at Gartside Street Dental Lounge, allowing a whole set of new teeth to be supported by just four implants.

Stages of Therapy

If you wish to proceed with a dental implant, the treatment consists of 3 simple stages.

The first stage is the digital smile design, during which we create a digital map of your mouth using the latest, top of the range technology to take photos, X-rays and 3D scans. This will help your dentist in choosing the best way to insert the implant for you to get the maximum results!

The second stage in the dental implant process is to perform the surgery in order to insert the implant. This part of the treatment is painless, as you will be under anesthetic and the amount of time the surgery requires is based on how complex the implant is. This can vary from one person to another. After the surgery, there will be a 12-week period of rest and recovery for the jaw to heal and the implant to set; our team will be with you every step of the process and they will give you plenty of advice on how to speed up the healing period!

For the final step, we will invite you back for the digital impression and the provisional crowns or final fit of the crown. The replacement tooth will match your natural teeth seamlessly!

Before and After Surgery

When you come to Gartside Street Dental Lounge for surgery, no matter what treatment you need, there are a couple of simple steps that you need to follow in order to speed up the recovery! Your dentist will be with you every step of the process and will explain everything in order for you to be familiar with what you need to do and, if you feel you need more information, do not hesitate to give us a call and we will always help!

Our highly trained hygienist will professionally clean your teeth a couple of weeks before the surgery. We also make sure that you are dentally fit before we start i.e. that you do not have tooth decay and that your periodontal tissue (i.e. your gums) are healthy.

After the surgery, you will need to use oral rinse both in the morning and night time, gently clean your teeth and gums with a soft toothbrush, avoiding the sensitive areas where the surgery was performed.

Unless your surgeon has prescribed them to you, do not use any antibiotics, but you can use ice packs and anti-inflammation tablets that will help with any discomfort you might have.

We are here to answer any of your questions you might have.

Full Arch Treatment

We know that there is a huge emotional impact when teeth are lost, either through physical impact, gum disease or tooth decay. For patients who have lost most or all of their teeth we can offer plenty of options to replace them.

If there is a need to replace a full arch, conventional dentures are the quickest and least invasive treatments, but if you are looking for something long-lasting, we recommend a full implant bridge. A few implants are placed into the jawbone and the replacement teeth are attached to those implants. With the proper care and attention, implant bridges will last for years!

The end result is a completely new arch of teeth, something that could definitely change a life, both physically and emotionally.

Implant Dentures

Dentures can correct problems resulting from missing teeth, since they replace the structure and functionality of missing teeth. Disadvantages with dentures range from being loose, uncomfortable and unstable; especially when eating or speaking.

At Gartside Street Dental Lounge we offer the amazing denture implant treatment, which uses only a few dental implants to secure your dentures in place so there is no longer the need for denture adhesive or pastes. This is a firm and secure solution which has a long-lasting result and the treatment can easily be finished in just a couple of appointments.

We treat all our patients as individuals and there is no general solution for everyone, However we are confident that we will be able to help you find that your new implant dentures are comfortable and painless.
